Dali Katch review: Design

When it comes to Danish speakers, the Dali Katch shows us what Scandinavian design is all about. With full-sized audio profiles built into a small, portable unit, the Katch can deliver exceptional sound, without compromising on convenience.

The pill-shaped aluminium unit is dripping with class and sophistication, with a unique chamfered edge that provides an extra dose of visual appeal. When you pick the speaker up, you can tell that it’s not just a pretty face too.

The cabinet feels weighty and robust — giving some extra credit to the quality that you’re paying for.

One of the most striking parts of the Dali Bluetooth speaker design is that it’s incredibly slim — only 47mm deep. This means that it’s incredibly easy to carry around in a backpack or handbag — even though it looks as though it belongs on your living room or kitchen cabinet.

The Katch even comes with a  leather carry handle to help with your portability.

With three colours to choose from, you’re sure to find a Dali Katch speaker that suits your unique sense of style. Our favourite (today at least) is the Moss Green — but it’s all a matter of personal preference.

Additionally, with each model, you can expect a selection of responsive buttons that you’ll use to handle things like sound modes, Bluetooth pairing, and volume.

For connectivity, the 3.5mm input jack and USB port are cleverly covered by a slim rubber cover, so you don’t have to worry about them becoming clogged with dust.

You can even use a Chromecast Audio dongle to connect the Dali Katch to your home network.

The Katch also comes with a power adapter and a built-in battery which takes about 2 hours to charge to full, at which point it can deliver 24 hours of playback at regular volume.

Dali Katch speaker review: Sound quality

The Dali Katch speaker might be small, but it does not lack when it comes to power and performance. The full digital Class-D amp delivers a considerable amount of energy. What’s more, the Bluetooth 4.0 receiver means that you can easily stream your favourite tunes from any device.

One unique thing about these Danish speakers, is that they come with two audio profiles already built-in. Each one is suited to a specific environment. For instance, the warm mode boosts the bass for larger rooms, while the clear mode suits most average listening environments.

The driver array within the Dali Catch comes with two lightweight dome tweeters, which are excellent for supporting robust treble. Additionally, the dual 3.5-inch sub-woofers come with a specially designed chassis which are fantastic for giving more depth and warmth to your bass.

The thing that really stands out about the Dali Katch is just how loud it can play. Though small, this device can seriously pump up the jam when you hold down that volume key. What’s more, the louder the system gets, the more you can notice the details in the sound.

There’s no hardness or distortion like you’d typically get with a less premium Bluetooth speaker.

Dali Katch speaker review: Setup and operation

The Dali Katch Bluetooth speaker might be designed to deliver higher quality than your standard portable device — but that doesn’t mean that it’s challenging to use. Operating your new sound station will be a breeze.

The buttons on the top of the unit are all clearly labelled, so you’ll have no trouble there. What’s more, pairing your machine to your Bluetooth device is a pain-free experience too.

The Dali Katch will even remember the devices that you use, so you don’t have to re-pair them again later. If you’re looking for a speaker that lets you control everything from your smartphone, then you might not love the Dali Katch.

There’s no dedicated app for EQ management and streaming. However, you can use your Bluetooth device to skip tracks, play your favourite tunes and adjust the volume from a distance.

For additional convenience, there’s also an auto-sensing jack input, which means that the Katch automatically changes modes when you plug in a cable.

Dali Katch speaker review: Verdict
Conclusion
So, should you invest in a Dali Katch Bluetooth speaker?

Well, that depends.

If you're in the market for a premium speakers that sounds as good as it looks, then you really can't go wrong with the Dali Katch. As a staple of the Scandinavian landscape, the Dali Katch is something you might expect to see in any true audiophile's home when you're visiting Denmark.

The speakers ability to produce rich, detailed, and powerful sounds from such a small space is astonishing, but it comes at a cost. Indeed, the only "Katch" (pun intended) is that this device is going to set you back more than the other options — so you’ll need to be willing to increase your budget.
