As one of the most beautiful locations in Scandinavia, Norway is famous for many things.
It’s home to some of the best universities and colleges around, as well as some of the happiest people in the world. Norway has even inspired endless tales and stories, thanks to its phenomenal folk lore and rich Scandinavian heritage. However, Norway’s talented artists haven’t always earned the fame and fortune they deserve outside of the Scandinavian landscape.
In the artistic world, Norway has often been associated with metal bands, and unique music. Now, however, social media channels like TikTok are giving new up-and-coming names a chance to shine. Quick Style, the Norwegian dance group, is proving Norway still has what it takes to go viral.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Quick Style dance group.
Who are Quick Style? The Norwegian Dance Group
Quick Style, otherwise known as “The Quick Style” or “Quick Crew”, is a Norwegian dance group. Though they’re inspired by numerous musical genres and dancing styles, Quick Style primarily focuses on hip-hop and urban performances. Not only do they showcase their skills all over the world, but they also choreograph dances for famous bands, and use their talents to promote companies.
Originally, Quick Style was formed in 2006, by two Norwegian-Pakistani twins, Bilal Malik, and Suleman Malik, as well as their childhood friend, Nasir Sirikhan. Inspired by a deep love of music and dance culture, the group initially began honing their skills at a local youth club in Oslo: X-Ray.
During 2006, the group participated in and won a youth culture competition, winning a scholarship, before the elder brother of the twins, Ibrar Malik joined the team as their manager, in 2007. In 2008, Quick Style began representing Norway in international dance competitions held by IDO (the International Dance Organization). During the same year, they also competed in the world Hip Hop championship in Germany, securing a spot in the finals.
By 2009, Quick Style were making some serious waves in the dance landscape. They competed in the IDO European and World Championships again, earning finalist positions, before applying for one of Norway’s biggest talent shows: Norske Talenter, the Norwegian version of “Britain’s Got Talent”.
Quick Style’s Rapid Rise to Fame
After successfully winning Norske Talenter, and capturing the hearts of a nation, Quick Style continued to draw more attention from fans and businesses alike. Sony Music signed the team as their first ever artists outside of the musician landscape. After this, Quick Style began touring Norway, performing at major events, such as VG Lista Top 20.
All the while, the YouTube views and social media follower counts for the group were steadily increasing. This online presence is what helped Quick Style to earn more international attention, as well as invitations to perform, teach, or judge at worldwide events.
In 2010, Quick Style proved they hadn’t lost any of their skills, by winning the IDO Hip Hop World Championship for a second time in the Adult Duo category. This led to a slew of new opportunities emerging from brands who wanted to work with Quick Style to create powerful, engaging social media and marketing campaigns.
Quick Style began working with major global brands, from Redbull and Samsung, to Puma, Monster, and even Coca Cola in Pakistan:
At the same time, the group continued to represent the passion and style of the Norwegian culture, as well as their own incredible talent, at concerts and events around the world. In 2017, they participated in the American dance show, the NBC “World of Dance”. Next, in 2020, they competed in the second season of America’s Got Talent: The Champions.
In the years following, Quick Style even began choreographing dances for some of the most popular bands in the world, including the K-Pop mega group, BTS. The team has worked on three songs for the BTS group so far, as well as participating in:
- West Meets East: A 5-part documentary travel series presented by Quick Style. The documentary takes the viewer on a journey through five cities in China, through the eyes of the three founding members, with behind-the-scenes insights into their lives.
- Television appearances: Quick Style has appeared on a host of television shows, as judges, contestants, and even guest performers. They’ve appeared on the “Battle Ground” show in Malaysia, the “Chinese New Year Special” on Hunan TV China, and Star Game.
- Strawhatz: A fun side project committed to blending different styles of dance and cultural expression into unique visual experiences. The group has contributed to the creation of numerous music videos and artistic pieces.
Going Viral: Social Media Stardom
While Quick Style experienced phenomenal success in the competitive world, at talent shows, and even performing for brand campaigns around the globe, it wasn’t until 2022 when the team really exploded into the spotlight.
Building on an incredible social media presence, Quick Style posted a video of their performance at co-founder Suleman Malik’s wedding on both YouTube and TikTok.
The video featured a 12-minute medley of Bollywood songs, while showcasing the group’s amazing moves, fantastic chemistry, and unforgettable charisma. It wasn’t just the phenomenal dance moves that captured the attention of viewers and pushed this video into viral territory – it was the relationship between the founding members too.
The way the group seems to work together in synergy instantly caught the hearts and minds of viewers worldwide, and the video began earning millions of reviews. One segment from the performance choreographed to the song Kala Chashma (a Bollywood favorite), became a TikTok dance challenge, attracting attention of stars like Demi Lovato, and Jimmy Fallon.
The worldwide impact of this viral video has helped to ignite a global love for the Norwegian dance group across virtually every social media channel. Today, Quick Style has millions of views and followers across:
Across every platform, Quick Style showcases its unique approach to dance, the latest projects its been working on, and the unique personalities of each of its members. The group also pays homage to it’s Norwegian heritage, often using the “Inspired by culture, Made in Norway” tagline.
